31 Days: And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy

Genesis 2:2-3

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

May your day be blessed and may you find rest and joy in the presence of the Lord.

The Rhythm of Rest

This is Day 11 of The Rhythm of Rest series (Write 31 Days challenge).

31 Days: Listening to nature

The first thing I notice is the sound of frogs, loud and persistent. Their joyful chorus resounds around the edge of the lake. The birds add their voices in harmony. Sunlight filters through the eucalyptus trees, paths wind through magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias.

I follow a fairy wren along a path up the hillside, slowly, among tall gum trees and flowering carpets of ground covers, hellebores and bluebells. I don’t want to miss the gifts along the way.

I soak in the beauty. Listen and rest.

I can still hear the frog-song up on the hill out of sight of the lake. I listen to the birds calling one another from the tree tops. A family of twelve – mum, dad and ten tiny ducklings – meander their way down towards the lake.

Everywhere there is new life.

The winter is gone, spring has come. And I am blessed.

When finding rest looks like kangaroos and wombats

Sometimes finding rest looks a little different than you might expect.

So I discovered in the Cleland Wildlife Park, where I spent a wonderful couple of hours wandering, watching the animals and taking photographs. Maybe they’ll give you a moment of rest too.

All creatures great and small

We had the pleasure of visiting Monarto Zoo over the weekend. As I looked over my photographs I was reminded of the old hymn:

All things bright and beautiful
All creatures great and small
All things wise and wonderful
The Lord God made them all

O Lord, what a variety of things you have made!
In wisdom you have made them all.
The earth is full of your creatures.

Psalm 104:24

May you be blessed by the bright and beautiful things that God has made and given you to enjoy.
